Friday was fairly uneventful as far as classes go. We worked hard on studying some Kanji (like every week it seems; next week might be a bit easier since I know most of them already), and we lazed about for the day until the class came. At lunch, we helped Orijin with more TOEFL Speaking examples and actual drills. By the last one, he had managed to tell his story and wrap it up in the alotted time. The TOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language and is a prerequisite for most international students wishing to study abroad in an English speaking country. While for us, it doesn't seem that hard, certain criterion make it hard, even for us. It's still fun to help out with this sort of stuff and it's good to work on English with someone who genuinely wants the help (gogo PM mindset).
After Kanji C, we waited around for the Welcome Party hosted by 105, Ryu-Soc, and WINGS, the three international student oriented clubs on campus. The actual event was swarming with people, both Japanese and International, and all very eager to make new friends. I made a few and talked to a bunch of people that I hardly knew and got to know better as the night went on. My only complaint about the evening is how quickly the food disappeared. I managed to swipe two pieces of tuna carpaccio, two nigiri, and three pieces of fried chicken before the swarms of people managed to pick the table of food to pieces. Nonetheless, the evening was good, and afterward, many of us went down to GASUTO to eat properly.
From there, we headed back to Mineswa and mingled and talked for much of night before a bunch of the crew wanted to go to Karaoke (all-night). I didn't feel like spending the money or staying out all night, so I headed back to my room and passed out. Hopefully, this weekend is less eventful and filled with some relaxation and peace.
