After a series of Japanese classes and an excruciatingly painful (for my stomach, that is) lecture on Japanese food culture, Mike, Linus, Sri, Cameron, and I headed back to Minesawa before heading out to the Pokemon Center in Landmark Plaza next to the Landmark Tower (the tallest building in Japan!). At about 17:00, we headed out and headed down to Mitsuzawakami-cho to wait for someone who wanted to go (a Japanese girl, her name is Yuuka).
We took the train to Sakuragi-cho, which is the most convenient for Minato Mirai. The Center is in the shopping mall adjacent to the Tower, connected by about 3 different escalators or so. The mall is six levels high with nice stores on each, including H&M, GAP, and BR, which is super super nice. Up to the fourth floor, and bam! Pokemon Center!
And the best part? It's freaking empty because it's a weekday. D: I'm a little sad I didn't take pictures this go around, but I will soon... because it's gonna be there for a while. But the goods are many and the awesomeness is terrible to behold. It was nice to not have to wade through swarms of little children, but there were craptons of awesome things, that I'll buy later, eventually.
Mike decided not to tell me what was across the way, but I suppose that for him, it was worth the jaw-dropping moment when I saw the Shonen Jump Store. It was chock-full of stuff from series I know and love, and some others that I don't really know. It was one spree of delight to the next, as right across is an awesome Studio Ghibli store, stuffed with Totoro plushes, phone charms, Spirited Away goodies, and cutest of all, Ponyo goods. So... I've got a feeling these stores are great for souvenirs before I head back.
Afterward, we ate at McDonald's, which is such a freaking guilty pleasure here. I had a 5-Piece Chicken McNuggets (no Sweet and Sour, only Barbeque), a GURAKORO burger (which turned out to be a gratin-shrimp croquette burger; amazingly delicious and hot), an Apple Pie (100¥ menu ftw), and an Oreo McFlurry... all for about 700-800¥. Win! We try to go to Krispy Kreme for Mike and the others to try it, but it's closed.. so we wander over toward World Porters to do some purikura.
There, Cameron leads us to a fresh donuts stand, where the cinnamon sugar one is absolutely amazing when it's fresh out of the fryer. From there, we head up a few floors and hit up an arcade for some easy "grabbing claw" games, where I win a pair of bear-mug-sherbet maker things for 200¥. Cameron loses a bunch of money on claw games he's not used to but it's fun anyway. We do some purikura and head off back home for the night... not bad for not expecting a decent adventure :)
