bunka no hi

Sorry for the complete lack of posts these past few months... life has been, just that. Crazy, fun, and tiring (and also full of studying). Here's some good old backtrack.

The day after my birthday was "文化の日" translated best into "Culture Day". We asked the Japanese students and professors what exactly one does on Culture Day, but no one had a definitive answer. Instead of sitting around Minesawa, we decided to go to Akihabara, the Electric Town of Tokyo. Akihabara is home to the weird, the freaky, and the geeky.

Getting out of the train station, we saw no fewer than four maid-outfitted girls, many with terrible teeth and all flaunting their pamphlets at unsuspecting gaijin. We walked down the streets of the city, and it was a nice clear day, though a bit windy. Tons of big chain electronic stores until we ventured off to the side streets. It's in these side streets where we found all the small second-hand shops, where you could get old phones, old laptops, old everything for a fraction of their rather formidable cost.

We had lunch at the Linux Cafe, where I had a plain spaghetti with some delicious fresh mozzarella. By the time we were done, it was getting dark and Akihabara had really started to come to life, but we were on our way home. C'est la vie. Besides, I didn't want to get harassed by any more maid cafe girls.
